If we stopped
to count the numbers of insurance policies we pay each month we would
probably all need therapy. Some days it seems as if we are just working
to pay the bankers and insurance companies. The new combined policy by
Insurance House (Members of National Insurance Brokers Association) is
a blessing because it combines two of your practice's essential insurances
- malpractice and public liability.
Well, actually
it combines a whole lot more including goods sold and supplied, libel,
slander, dishonesty of employees, transgression of the Trade Practices
Act, loss of documents, breach of confidentially, locum cover and students
under supervision cover to name but a few other things. When we first
got the policy documents sent through to the journal we thought there
must be a catch because the prices quoted for the annual policy were so
low but after speaking to other brokers the new policy seems to be the
real thing. Added to all that is the fact there is no excess on any claim.
On top of
all that the list of additional modalities that a practitioner may be
practising run to over a hundred, including physical and well as mental
disciplines, all at no extra cost. We try not to sound like groupies when
reviewing anything at the journal but this really is a step forward in
insurance for complementary and allied health professionals. There are
many practitioners out there that may have malpractice insurance but they
never bother to get public liability insurance that covers them if they
practise from home. This policy leaves no excuse.
Other companies
are now also starting to carry out this combined form of insurance, making
it easier for therapists to comply with having practice insurance and
public liability insurance.
