Clinical Articles

Please include an abstract, summarising the aims, methods and main conclusions in a maximum of 300 words for main articles or 150 words for brief reports.

Style

Write in clear, concise English. American spellings are acceptable from American authors. Avoid the use of sexist language: do not refer to subjects or patients as ‘he’ unless they are male. Instead use plural pronouns ie 'they' or 'them' or 'he or she'. Avoid using the terms ‘hypnotised’ and ‘hypnotic state’ where possible. Instead, give details of hypnotic procedures employed, rather than simply saying the subject was ‘hypnotised’.

References in Text

List the author’s name and the date of publication, and arrange them in chronological order, eg (Hilgard & Hilgard, 1972; Rossi 1973). For more than one author use ‘and’ when citing in the text and an ampersand ( & ) when citing parentheses, eg. 'Sarbin & Coe (1972). Only use the abbreviation 'et al’ in the text for second or later citations of works by more than two authors. Where there is more than one publication for an author-year combination, suffixes a,b etc can be used to distinguish in the text and reference list, eg (Rossi, 1986a, 1986b).

Reference List

Put these in alphabetical order by author’s surname. Multiple works by the same author should be listed in chronological order. All authors’ names must be listed, with initials, followed by the year in parentheses. An ampersand should be used when there are two or more authors. Titles of journals and books must be given in full. For books, any editors’ names should be included plus page numbers for both journals and books.

The author is responsible for obtaining permission to publish any lengthy quotations.

Instead use plural pronouns ie 'they' or 'them' or 'he or she'. For 'opinion' pieces, be careful to avoid libellous comments. Avoid long sentences and jargon and avoid being 'dry' or 'academic' in these type of articles.

Accuracy

Factual accuracy is essential. Make sure you put OK in brackets after the spelling of each place, name etc.

Advertorial

This journal is for editorial only so please do not send submissions which purport to be articles and yet have an advertising 'hook' in the text.
